CANTON, Mo. — Sierra Gary has been accepted to Culver-Stockton College's fall 2017 incoming class. Gary, a senior at Pawnee High School was also awarded the Hilltop academic scholarship. Culver-Stockton College, located in Canton, Mo., is a four-year residential institution in affiliation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). C-SC specializes in experiential education and is one of only two colleges in the nation to offer the 12/3 semester calendar, where the typical 15 week semester is divided into two terms, a 12-week term and a 3-week term.
SPRINGFIELD—Lincoln Land Community College's student newspaper, The Lamp, received 11 awards at a statewide competition April 7. The awards were presented at the Illinois Community College Journalism Association (ICCJA) spring conference held at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey. Lukas Myers of Taylorville placed first in arts review.

TAYLORVILLE — I write today to pay tribute to my mother, the indomitable Katie Fraley, who is poised to complete a career in education that spans more than five decades: 41 years as an elementary school teacher, followed by 12 years as an elected school board member, and nearly all of this time spent in, and for, Taylorville.
