SPRINGFIELD — After you've finished your Thanksgiving dinner and your Black Friday shopping, head over to the Hoogland Center for the Arts on Friday night, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday night, November 24 at 7:00 p.m. for laughs, fun and singing with Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music!
Having started in the UK back in 1999, the Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music show has now become a worldwide hit, playing to packed houses across the globe with over 10,000 performances in eleven different countries. It’s even filled the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles – seven times!
Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music is not just a chance to see the classic movie on the big screen; it’s a major audience participation event with subtitles for all the songs. Johnny Molson will lead the audience through a vocal warm up and give a comprehensive guide to the accompanying actions and use of the interactive funpack. The costume parade has been known to send audiences into frenzy. Sing-a-long-a attendees have dressed up as anything and everything represented in the classic film. Previous entries have included: Nuns of both genders (including a pregnant nun!), girls (and boys!) in white dresses with blue satin sashes, a lonely Goatherd, a man in a gold lycra catsuit (Ray - a drop of golden sun), a man dressed in work overalls and a tool belt (Chris the Plumber), a gazebo and a carburetor.
So get those vocal chords warmed up, cut up those chintz curtains and hurry down for another dose of the international smash-hit sensation! It’s the perfect night out for birthday celebrations, office outings, family trips, or for anyone who has ever shed a tear during “Edelweiss!”
Tickets for this fun event are just $15, and can be purchased at the Hoogland Center for the Arts box office at 420 South Sixth Street in Springfield. You can also order tickets by phone at (217) 523-2787 or online at www.hcfta.org.
