2/14/2013 2:04:00 PM First Friday Gallery Walk kicks off March 1
DECATUR — The 2013 First Friday Gallery Walk series kicks off on Friday, March 1 from 5-8 p.m. and features all of the downtown Decatur art galleries. Enjoy artists’ talks, tasty hors d’oeuvres, music and inspiring art at the Anne Lloyd Gallery Madden Arts Center, Blue Connection, Gallery 510 and Richland Community College Art Department on the 3rd floor of the Madden Arts Center.
Decatur Area Arts Council introduces a relatively new local artist — self-taught, mixed media artist, Cindy Lewis. With little concern for the “rules,” Lewis employs an experimental approach to her mixed media paintings that is more akin to playing than working. The result is layers of vibrant movement, color and textures.
Spotlighting Millikin’s best, the Blue Connection features paintings and drawings of various subject matters by exemplary art students from the MU Art Department. The vibrant canvases of Millikin faculty member Lyle Salmi are also on display alongside his students’ work. Live music in the Anne Lloyd Gallery is being provided by the Millikin Guitar Ensemble.
At Gallery 510, watercolor artist Michael Delaney displays his love of both landscape and portrait painting. His enjoyment of color subtleties can be seen in his sunrise scenes as well as his images of people engaged in everyday life.
Exceptional alumni artists from Richland Community College are showing a variety of art forms on the third floor of the Madden Arts Center. This exhibit, only on display for the one night, is being presented by Richland Community College Alumni Association. Featured artists include Denise Blakeman, Eric Hector, Miranda Horve, Sue Huskins, Jennifer Jacobs, Ryan Rocha, Jason Sandberg, Seth Stedman and Nick Wood.
Enjoy respective artists’ talks at the Anne Lloyd Gallery and Blue Connection, 6:30 p.m.; at both Gallery 510 and the RCC exhibit at 5:45 and 7:15 p.m. First Friday Gallery Walks are always open and free to the public.
