5/16/2013 8:35:00 AM 4th Annual S.B. Edwards Youth Fishing Tournament Sat. at Lake
TAYLORVILLE – Rain or shine, the Fourth Annual S.B. Edwards Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kiwanis Park at Lake Taylorville.
When S.B. Edwards passed away, he left money for the Lake Department to do something for the Christian County youth at the lake, and for four years by generous donation, children in the area have been able to have a day of food, fun and fishing free of charge.
There will be two age divisions for the event; 11 year old and under, and 12-16 year old.
Cash prizes will be awarded to those who catch the largest fish, smallest fish, and greatest number of fish in each age group. The first 100 participants present will be able to take a fishing pole and t-shirt home after the tournament is over, courtesy of the sponsors.
The Edinburg Bass Team and Meridian Bass Team, along with their coaches, will help with the tournament.
According to Lake Superintendent, Alan Jackson, the high school students will be helping children bait hooks, take fish off the hooks, and help wade them into the water.
Dan Stephenson, Biologist with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Fishery Division will be present to shock fish and show those present the different species in the lake.
Refreshments, lunch, and all fishing gear will be provided free of charge.
Jackson has received donations for food, drink, and money for prizes from several local businesses and Edwards' family members. Last year 72 children attended. For questions call the Taylorville Lake Department at 824-5606.
