May 16 - TONIGHT
“Uprisings: Illinois Miners Revolt” Lecture at Library
Friends of the Taylorville Public Library will host Dr. Rosemary Feurer who will present a free program entitled "Uprisings: Illinois Miners Revolt!" in the community room on Thurs., May 16 at 7 p.m. as part of the Library’s Meet Me at the Library - Evening Lecture Series. Dr. Feurer’s field of study includes United States-20th Century Labor and Social Movements. She will help the audience discover the role of miners throughout the state, incorporating the lost history of African-American miners, the first successful miners uprising in 1897-1898 and how downstate miners during 1894-1935 created an oppositional culture that led to an uprising against their union, mining corporations, and state and federal officials. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

Calico Twirlers Square Dance Club
The Calico Twirlers Square Dance Club will host their monthly dance on Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Litchfield Community Center, 1100 S. State St., Litchfield, IL, from 7:30-10:00 P.M. Springfield Comic Book Convention
The Springfield Comic Book Convention will be held Sunday May 19 at the Route 66 Hotel & Conference Center located at 625 E. Saint Joseph St. This is near the intersection of 6th St and Stevenson Dr. The convention is open to public from 10 AM to 4 PM and admission is free. Dealers will have a huge variety of comic books new and old, as well as toys and related collectibles for sale. If you happen to have old comic books sitting around that you no longer want there will be dealers there that are interetsed in buying them. Illinois Chapter Po.L.K. of A. Dance
Illinois Chapter Po.L.K. of A. Dance will host the band, Fred and Button Box Club, Sunday, May 19, from 2 - 5:30 p.m. at the Riverton K or C Hall, 335 South 4th Street, Riverton. Cost – Nonmember $10.00; Member $9.00.
