TAYLORVILLE — Taylorville High School (THS) Band Boosters will host its first ever Trivia Night on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Taylorville High School in the cafeteria with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Trivia will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. All monies raised from the event will benefit the THS bands.
Band Boosters’ Treasurer, Christina Latta, said the funds raised by the Band Boosters over a year help supply any of the bands’ needs that the school can’t provide. Last year, new uniforms and two sousaphones were purchased. Latta said that there are a number of activities and special events in which band students participate and for which Band Boosters pays miscellaneous expenses.
“It gives them extra opportunities,” said Latta. “We have some extraordinarily talented students in band that are given opportunities to play with larger bands and in concerts,” she added. Band Boosters helps pay for meals or hotel costs incurred so the students don’t have to pay for those expenses out of pocket.
Band Boosters member, Sharon Lawrence, said events like Trivia Night will help support Taylorville’s students’ interests. “If we don’t continue to raise money, band will probably be one of the first things they look at cutting when it comes to cutting [extracurriculars].”
Cost is $10 per person. Teams consist of six to eight players to a team. Prizes will be awarded for Best Team Theme, Best Female Costume and Best Male Costume.
There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and concessions. Pre-register by April 12 by calling Sharon at (217) 820-1604. Seating is limited.
Lawrence says that this is the first ever trivia night the Band Boosters has hosted. Eight teams have registered at this time.
