Children may drill with 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry at Lincoln Home Sat.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Lincoln Home National Historic  Site will present the below free “History Comes Alive” activities, on May 25, in the Lincoln Neighborhood.

10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - The 114th, Illinois Volunteer Infantry (Reactivated) will re-create what it was like to be a Civil War Union Army soldier in 1863. They will also discuss Civil War medicine in their medical tent.

10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m. - School of the Soldier, at Burch and Brown Lot

The 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry (Reactivated) will demonstrate drills and/or invite children to participate in “The School of the Soldier” program. During the” School of the Soldier” program, children will temporarily join the 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry and receive instructions about how to become a soldier.

1:00 p.m. - Playtime with Willie and Tad Lincoln, at Jameson Jenkins lot

Join living history interpreters who will demonstrate how to play Victorian era children’s games that your great-great-great grandparents played before there were electronic games or X-boxes.
