9/12/2013 11:44:00 AM 25th Annual Edwards Place Fine Art Fair Sept. 21-22
SPRINGFIELD — 2013 is a big year at the Springfield Art Association; the SAA is 100 years old and the Edwards Place Fine Art Fair is 25 years old. Help them celebrate at Central Illinois’ premiere fall arts event, the Edwards Place Fine Art Fair on September 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and September 22, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Over 70 artists will be displaying their wares on the grounds of Edwards Place Historic Home at the Springfield Art Association (SAA), 700 N. 4th Street in Springfield, IL. Admission is free.
Many of your favorite artists are returning to show and sell their work, plus we have added a new group of artists to the mix. The Children’s Area, where the young (and young at heart) can participate in creating their very own artistic craft project, is back this year thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Springfield Clinic Pediatrics Team. The interactive area with games like life-sized “Jenga” and a community sculpture project for all ages will be available all weekend. Sets of live music by the Samba Llamas, Ben Bedford, Tom Irwin, Mike Burnett, and groups from the Hoogland Center for the Arts and Sacred Heart Griffin School will be performed. This year’s fair will also feature artists’ demonstrations in various media, including wood turning, wheel throwing, weaving, paper making, and classic favorites like drawing, painting and pastels. The completed “Art Car” will be making its debut with a challenge to guess the number of corks and bottle caps decorating the car.
Historic Edwards Place, the oldest house in Springfield, will be open for tea and tours. The exhibition, “Hidden in Plain Sight: The Material Life of Early Springfield,” showing in the Gallery of Art is the perfect complement to a tour of Edwards Plac.
The beloved Used Book Sale will be open during the entire fair and will be selling books, magazines, movies, and musical recordings, as well as some art prints and other miscellanea. All proceeds from the Used Book Sale benefit the Michael Victor II Art Library. They are adding a used art supply sale to the mix as well.
The Edwards Place Fine Art Fair is a free, family-friendly weekend of art, history, music, and fun. Celebrate the fall season by spending the weekend at the SAA attending fall’s oldest and best art fair.
