July 29 American Legion 21st District Meeting At 1 p.m. Sunday, July 29th the 21st District Meeting will be held at Post #32 Springfield IL, located at 1120 Sangamon Avenue in Springfield. All Posts in the District are encouraged to attend. Discussion will be held on a possible Membership Caravan in September. Committees and Commissions for the 2012/2013 year will be recommended. Dress is casual. The 21st District covers all Posts in Christian, Macoupin, Montgomery, and Sangamon counties. Ronald McDonald House benefit at Trinity Lutheran The Trinity Lutheran Church will hold a meal and ice cream social to benefit the Ronald McDonald House on Sunday, July 29th from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend and eat inside or at the picnic tables on the lawn. Guests may give a free will offering to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The Trinity Lutheran Church is located at 1010 N. Webster St. in Taylorville.

July 30 Card Play Group Every Monday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. the Taylorville Senior Center holds its regular "Card Play Group" for Bridge and Pinochle or bring your own card/game group. The public is welcome.
Beginning Bridge classes The Taylorville Senior Center offers free beginning bridge classes every Monday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Personal instruction and tips to become proficient bridge players. Call 824-4263 to RSVP; class size is limited.
Weight Watchers A Weight Watchers meeting at the Way of Life Church will be held each Monday at 6:00 p.m. Weigh-in will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Tae Kwon Do Classes The Taylorville Park District offers Tae Kwon Do class on Monday and Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Manners Park dining hall. The class is for children through adults. There is a monthly fee and a yearly registration fee. Mr. Dave Woods is the chief instructor and there are also ten black belt instructors to help with the class. Grief Support Group A grief support group will meet the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, 4th floor in room 469.
July 31 Weight Watchers There will be a Weight Watchers meeting at the Way of Life Church each Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. Weigh-in will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Pinochle Game Pinochle games are played every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the South Fork Senior Center. Everyone is welcome to join the game.
TOPS TOPS Weight Loss Group meets each Tuesday evening in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 303 E. Market. Weigh-in is from 4:30-5:00 p.m. Meeting is from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Come share recipes, information and fun! Please call 824-2951 for more information.

August 1 Alzheimer & Dementia Support Group A support group for caregivers, family, or friends of persons with Alzheimer disease or other forms of dementia meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday, of the month, in the First United Methodist Church, Taylorville. Group provides educational and emotional support. Contact Sharon at 287-2232 to participate or for further information. Persons may join at any time, but pre-registration for the group is required.

THS Class of 1987 Reunion The class of 1987 Taylorville High School is inviting all class members to attend their 25 year reunion. The event will take place on Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 7:30 p.m. until 12 a.m. at One East Market in Taylorville. Anyone with questions can contact Colleen Beavers at 864-9337.
August 5 Sears #9660 Reunion A reunion for all former employees of the Sears warehouse in Springfield will be held Sunday, August 5th at Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet in the Town and Country Shopping Center, Springfield. A banquet room has been reserved from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Anyone who worked in the warehouse, technicians, call takers, parts clerks, MA staff, management, is invited. The committee sent information to those we had addresses for, but there are many more we’ve been unable to contact. Please share this with anyone who had a connection to the warehouse.
55th Annual Steak Dinner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church The Holy Trinity Catholic Church, located just off Rt. 48 in Stonington, will present their 55th annual Steak Dinner on Sunday, August 5th from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Char-broiled steaks ($12) or hamburgers (single $5, double $7) will be available, along with scalloped potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, fresh tomatoes, bread and an iced beverage. Diners will enjoy their meals in the church’s air conditioned hall and can also partake in the baked goods and ice cream booth, country store, quilt raffle, kids games and activities, basket raffle and face painting.
August 25 9th Annual Veterans Benefit and Poker Run The 9th Annual Veterans Benefit and Poker Run will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012. All proceeds from the event benefit the residents and patients at the Danville and Quincy VA Hospitals. Sign up is from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. the day of the run at the American Legion Hall, 110 W. Franklin Street, Taylorvile. Stops include: The Night Owl, Macon, The Knotty Pine, Assumption, The Blue Bell, Pana and The Other Bar, Morrisonville. The run will end at the Thunderbird Lounge in Hewittville for food, prizes, raffle and an auction. Entertainment will also be provided as well as recognition for those veterans participating in the poker run.
