Betty R. Waters, 84, of Rogers, Arkansas, formerly of Taylorville, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2012 surrounded by family.
Born in Ava, IL, on July 24, 1928 to Lawrence and Stella B. Rains, Betty attended Ava schools and upon graduation attended secretarial school in St. Louis. She traveled to Japan in the mid-1950's as a civilian secretary for the army and then settled in Atlanta, GA, where she worked at Ft. McPherson in 3rd Army Headquarters. There she met Col. Waters, a divorcé with two young children. They married in 1966, lived in Louisiana for two years and then settled in Taylorville. Betty and her husband Charles H. Waters were residents of Taylorville from 1968 to 1993, during which time he served as president of Baughman-Oster Manufacturing Company. Charles preceded her in death in 2003.
She is survived by her brother, Norman Rains and sister, Wanda Tinker, both of St. Louis, MO; stepsons, Charles, Jr. and Kevin; stepdaughters, Brooke and Mary; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Her ashes will be inurned at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis on June 22, 2012.
