Wayne "Pete" Allen

Wayne “Pete” Allen, 77, of Oconee passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.

He was  born September 17, 1934 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of James Thomas and Edna (Whitrock) Allen. He was a graduate of Pana Township High School and he served in the U.S. Army. He married Frances Dudzik on October 23, 1955 in St. John’s E & R Church, Pana. He lived in the Pana and Oconee areas his entire life, except while in the military. He was a farmer and a member of the Oconee Baptist Church. He was a 50 year member of the Oconee Masonic Lodge #392 AF & AM, a member of Roy Ireland Post #317 American Legion in Oconee, served on Oconee Mound Cemetery board for several years and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. He was a past member of the Pana School Board and the Shelby County Conservation Board.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Allen of Oconee; children, Frances McCaslin and husband Greg of Decatur, Kathy Coffey and husband Leon of Taylorville, Nancy Rudow and husband Bill of Pana, Paul Allen of Oconee, Beth Johanson and husband Tim of Bartlett, IL, Becky Michael and husband Mark of Oconee; 11 grandchildren, Wesley Donaldson, Ryan Donaldson, Valerie Coffey, Jacob Coffey, Jessica Ahrens, Kassie Rudow, Katlyn Allen, Paul Allen, Jr., Grant Allen, Allen Johanson, and Hanna Michael; one great-grandchild, Lincoln Coffey; and sister, Una Dunbar and husband Dean of Glen Allen, VA. He was preceded by his parents, brothers: Carl, Joe, Alfred, Lester, Keith, and Coy; and sisters: Marian Miller, Lois Hayward, Geneva Kirkham, and Irene Camden.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana with Masonic rites by Oconee Masonic Lodge #392 AF&AM at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Monday, August 13, 2012 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Robert Evaul officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Mound Cemetery with graveside military rites by Roy Ireland Post #317 American Legion, Oconee. Light a virtual candle or send condolences to the family at
