Donald Lee King, 86 of Stonington, IL passed away on Thursday, August 23rd at 7:50 p.m. in the Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, IL.
He was born to Lee Elmer and Eula Elizabeth (Ryan) King on October 21st, 1925 in Bristow, OK. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, fighting in World War II in the Pacific Theater seeing heavy action in Okinawa. On April 30, 1946 he married his childhood sweetheart, Josie Yvonne Ford. They lived in southern Indiana and southern Illinois before relocating to Mt. Auburn, IL in 1958.
In 1963 he began working for Ashland Oil as a truck driver, retiring from there in 1986. Donald was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Auburn, IL. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading and sports.
He is survived by Josie, his wife of 66 years and his children, James King of Houston, TX; Donald V. (Kathleen) King of Taylorville, IL; Jonathon (Noemi) King of Caldwell, AR; and Carol King of Springfield, IL. Donald is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Michael Harris; Nichole, Jeff, and Jamie King; Jonathon, Roy and Jacob Goodman and Hope King, David Hansen, Katelyn and Ryan Lollar and Kaylee King; and Brandon, India and Isaiah King. Donald is also survived by 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, and 16 nephews and nieces. He is survived by his sisters Fern Crews of Decatur, IL; and Faye (Ralph) McLemore of Benton, KY; and Jimmy (Sue) King of Calvert City, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, and a granddaughter.
Visitation is Monday, August 27th at Sutton’s Funeral Home in Taylorville, IL from 5 to 8 p.m., with burial services at Sutton’s on Tuesday, August 28th at 9:30 a.m.
