Chester A. Minks Jr.
January 26, 1932 - August 31, 2012

Chester A. Minks, Jr., 80, of Blue Mound, passed away at 11:55 a.m. Friday August 31, 2012, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Minks was born on January 26, 1932, in Owaneco, the son of Chester and Rohima (Askins) Minks Sr.  Chester served proudly in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. Chet retired from Springfield Electric Company. He was a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church, a longtime member of the Blue Mound Rotary Club having served as a past president, a several term member of the Blue Mound School Board and had served as a past president. He had also formerly served as a township trustee on the Pleasant View Township Board and as a council member of the Blue Mound City Council. Chester married Beverly Behl on April 5, 1953.  She preceded him in death on December 9, 1996.

Chet leaves behind his children: Stanley Minks and his wife Barbara of Moline, IL and Jan Minks Runion and her husband Allen of Decatur, IL; brothers, Gloyd Askins of Pana, IL and Ken and his wife Anne Minks of Decatur, IL; sister-n-law, Joann Taylor of Altamont, IL; grandchildren, Travis Minks of Moline, IL, Tracy Minks of Sulphur, LA, Hilary Runion of Madison, WI and Colin Runion of Decatur, IL; great grandchildren, Mason Minks of Moline, IL and Ava Lynn Minks of Sulphur, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers, Richard Minks and William Minks.

A service to celebrate Chester’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at the Blue Mound United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Myers officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. Chester will be laid to rest in South Macon Township Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard.
