Mrs. Edith M. Smothers, 97, of Taylorville, formerly of Kincaid and Bulpitt, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 in Taylorville Care Center.

Edith was born in Taylorville, November 29, 1914 the daughter of James and Fay (Hodson) Griffiths. She married Jesse “Larry” Smothers December 11, 1933 in Taylorville. Mrs. Smothers was a Charter Member of the Kincaid Church of God.  

Surviving are her husband, Larry of Taylorville; children, Richard (Joyce) Smothers of Springfield, IL Gary (Gigi) Smothers of Taylorville, Faye (Danny) Hay of Kincaid, Beverly Wiggs of Mascoutah, IL; eight grandchildren, Mike (Lori) Smothers of Taylorville, Debbie (Joe) Champley of Taylorville, David (Jane) Hay of Chatham, IL, Greg (Janet) Hay of Quincy, IL, Regina (Lee) Peterson of Mascoutah, IL, Kevin (Janette) Wiggs of Belleville, IL, Neth Wiggs of Republic, MO, and Bill (Becky) Wiggs of Olney, IL; 17 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, one sister and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday September 10, 2012 in the Kincaid Church of God. Pastor Michael Mayberry will officiate assisted by Rev. Bill Wiggs.  Visitation will be held for an hour before the service at the church.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid is handling arrangements. Funeral services for Edith M. Smothers were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2012 in the Kincaid Church of God. Pastor Michael Mayberry officiated, assisted by Rev. Bill Wiggs. Pallbearers were Mike Smothers, Greg and David Hay, Kevin, Neth, and Bill Wiggs. Mrs. Smothers passed away Thursday, September 6, in Taylorville Care Center.  Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid handled arrangements.
