Alene Hauser Grabbe

Alene Hauser Grabbe, 100, of Nokomis passed away on October 5, 2012 at Nokomis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Nokomis Illinois. She was born on September 15, 2012 in Dallas, Texas to Grover Cleveland “G.C.” and Corda Smith Hauser.

She Married Vern A. Grabbe on September 20, 1935 in Elizabethtown, KY. He preceded her in death in May, 1976.

Mrs. Grabbe was a 1930 graduate of Nokomis Township High School. She was joint owner and accountant of the Grabbe Chrysler-Plymouth Automotive and Grabbe Ford Implement dealerships. Mrs. Grabbe was also an insurance agent for State Farm Insurance Company and was recognized as the first female to sell $1 Million of insurance for the company. She was a self-employed tax accountant for 52 years in the Nokomis area. Mrs. Grabbe was a member of Nokomis Business and Professional Women’s Association, independent Accountants Association, Eastern Star, and Methodist Church.

She is survived by four children: Sharon (Kenneth) Kleinik of Nokomis, Phillip (Kay) Grabbe of Fillmore, IL, Sally (Ronald, deceased) Sides of Nokomis, and Vern “Gus” Grabbe of Lee, IL; five grandchildren: Kendra (Timothy) Kleinik Davis, G.P. “Phil” Grabbe, Kara (Marcus) Grabbe Renwick, Kim Grabbe, Timothy (Bethany) Sides; step-grandson: Rodney (Wanda) Sides, four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, along with half-sister: Mildred Wattjes Pudenz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Margaret Hauser Claborn as well as her step-father: Richard Wattjes, half-brother: Richard Sonny Wattjes and step-brother Alvan Wattjes.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Monday, October 8, 2012. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday October 8, 2012 at the United Methodist Church of Nokomis. Sutton Funeral Home of Nokomis is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Nokomis Cemetery, Nokomis, IL, with Rev. Steve Williams officiating.

Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church of Nokomis at 220 S. Cedar St. Nokomis, IL, 62075
