Max Maisch, 81, of Pana, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 in his residence.
He was born November 9, 1931 in Pana, the son of Frank and Bertha Scheer Maisch. Max was a graduate of Pana High School, Class of 1949. He lived his entire life in Pana and served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954. He married Frances Faye Burkhardt on July 18, 1959 in Pana. He worked for Mallory Timers from the time they opened until they closed; he then went to work for Caterpillar; and then retired from National Greenhouse. Max enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing pool, playing cards, especially pinochle, and working in the yard. He was also a die-hard Cub fan and an avid mushroom hunter. He was a member of the Illinois Horseshoe Pitching Association, Pana Elks Lodge and Pana Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Faye Maisch of Pana; daughters: Carol Koons (husband Jim) of Tower Hill, IL, Diann Smith (husband Geff) of Sullivan, IL and Nancy Foster (husband Lynn) of Tower Hill, IL; eight grandchildren: Katie Koons, Daniel Koons, Seth Koons, Kiley Koons, Kelsey Smith, Andrew Smith, Cody Foster (wife Melody) and Jill Hubbartt (husband Caleb); one great-grandson, Landon Hubbartt; brothers and sisters: Marian Evans of Springfield, IL, Ormond “Bud” Maisch (wife Jane) of Bethesda, MD, twin sister, Maxine Younker (husband Darrell) of Albuquerque, NM and Bruce Maisch (wife Fran) of Taylorville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends are invited to gather at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:45 a.m. to go in procession to Mound Cemetery, Pana for a graveside memorial inurnment service officiated by Pastor Greg White. Military rites will be performed by Pana Veterans Honor Guard.
