David L. Watkins, 51, of Rushville, formerly of Waggoner, passed away at 7:45 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2013, as the result of a motorcycle accident in Virginia, Illinois.
He was born on December 7, 1961, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Donna (Thacker) Watkins and the late John Watkins. He married Amy Osborne on November 29, 2003, at Green Pastures Christian Camp Ground near Meredosia.
Surviving are his wife Amy (Osbourn) Watkins, three sons Gabriel, 8, Isaiah, 4, and Jacob, 2, all at home, mother Donna Watkins of Taylorville, two brothers, Tony Watkins and wife Kim of Springfield and Bill Watkins of Morrisonville, two sisters Linda Ash of Wentzville, Missouri, and Joyce Bandy of Raymond, his father and mother-in-law Bob and Sandy Osborne of Beardstown, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
David first worked managing several service stations in Litchfield, while serving as pastor at the Waggoner Christian Church. He received a Master’s in Divinity Degree from Lincoln Christian Seminary. He then was a mechanic at Sloan Implement in Carlinville. In 2003, he moved to Rushville to become pastor of Bethany Bible Church near Camden. He also worked at Eyler Auto Center and as a driver and assistant at Wood Funeral Home, both in Rushville. He then worked as a Security Therapy Aide at the Rushville Department of Human Services Treatment Facility before transferring to a case worker with DHS in Springfield, while also serving as pastor of Sangamon Valley Presbyterian Church near Chandlerville.
He was a Cub Scout Den Leader for Pack 35. He was a devoted Packers, Cardinal baseball and NASCAR fan. He also served as Community Spiritual Director for Promiseland Chrysalis. A devoted husband and father, he was a man of great faith.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Carl Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery.
