James L. “Pooch” Pickett, 88, of Kincaid, IL, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
He was born May 31, 1925, in Benton, IL, to Ceburn and Charity (Galloway) Pickett. James was a proud World War II veteran, serving in Burma, India, and China. He was a life-long member of the Eagles Post #1425 and the American Legion, Post 73 in Taylorville. Pooch loved a good meal and enjoyed socializing with his fraternal brothers. James was employed over thirty years as a coal miner and mine inspector. He enjoyed his retirement and loved fishing, the St. Louis Cardinals, and traveling - Las Vegas was always his favorite destination.
He is survived by his brother-in-law; Jerry Machue (Barstow, CA), nephews; Mike Cunningham (Edinburg, IL), Greg Cunningham (Taylorville, IL), Jerry Machue III (Barstow, CA), nieces; Donna Cole (Taylorville, IL), Terry Galloway (Barstow, CA), Tracey Leetham (Bountiful, UT), and several great and great-grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Hazel Caraker, Merrill Cunningham, Jeanne Machue, and a brother, Lloyd Pickett.
Uncle Pooch had a great sense of humor and always held a special place in his heart for children. Thanks to friends and family for the friendship, love and support. A special thanks to Julie Eason - Pooch thought the world of you!
Per his request, no services will be held. Interment will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL, at a later date.
