Thomas Leroy Nichols, of Cathedral City, CA, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on March 26th 1955 in Springfield, Illinois to Harris and Carolyn (Shell) Nichols. Tom was baptized at The Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL on March 29, 1959. He attended Taylorville Schools. He was employed by Peabody Coal Company before moving to California in 1977. He worked for the California School District and was self employed operating a cleaning service before retiring. Tom enjoyed music, dancing, and spending time with his beloved cat, Buddy.
Thomas is survived by his mother, Carolyn (James) Dyott of New Port Richey, FL; brothers: Dean (Gerry) Nichols of Denver, NC, Patrick Nichols of Taylorville, IL, Ed Dyott of New Port Richey, FL, and Bill Dyott of New Port Richey, FL; sisters: Rose (Doug) Dieterich, Debbie Sassatelli (companion Frank Kindred) of Taylorville, IL and Kimberly McIntosh (companion Mark Hoffman) of Decatur IL. He is also survived by his step-mother, Donna Nichols of Taylorville, IL and his aunt, Joyce Yard of Morrisonville IL, along with several nieces and nephews, and special friends Shelly and Steve Dennis of Taylorville, IL. He was preceded in death by his father and many beloved friends.
His depth of character, generous spirit, sense of humor and work ethic earned him the love and enduring admiration of friends and family alike.
As per Tom's request, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no formal visitation or services. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
