George Christian Castro, 78, of Henderson, Nevada and formerly of Geneseo, Illinois, loving husband of Carmen Castro, passed away on November 9th, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
George was born in Hong Kong on May 24, 1935 and with his sister, Dani, survived the war in Macau, China. He emigrated to the United States in 1948 with his sister and her husband, Merv Law. After a stint in the Air Force he attended Eureka College where he was second in his class. He gained a BA in Education and later a Masters at the University of Illinois. He began his career in teaching at Roanoke Benson and went on to be a Principal for 29 years in Verona, Momence, Cornell, Mount Sterling, and Andalusia. He retired at age 65 after 38 years working in education to Geneseo, IL. He loved to hunt and fish, and to golf at the Geneseo Country Club. He won 22 trophies for various golf events.
Survivors include his wife: Carmen; three sons: Brett Price, Tony Castro, and Chet Price; and five grandchildren.
Per his request cremation rites were accorded and a memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Robinson, IL.
