Bruno W. Lehenbauer went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 27, at the Veterans Home in Quincy, IL.
He was born on June 19, 1919, in Arroio do Meio, Brazil, South America, and baptized by his father, a Lutheran Missionary to Brazil for 17 years. He attended a Christian Day School for five years before the family returned to the United States, to live in Springfield, IL, where he was a student at Trinity Lutheran School for one year and then when his father accepted a Call to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Nokomis as their pastor. He graduated from St. Paul’s in 1933 and attended Nokomis Township High school for four years, graduating in 1937.
He worked at the local Kroger store for five years. Between 1942 and 1945 he served in the U. S. Army as an M.P. and was sent to New Guinea, the Philippines and other places in the Southwest Pacific. After that he worked for the U.S. Postal service in Chicago and St. Louis and then came back to work at Kroger’s until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Conrad and Magdalena (Wallner) Lehenbauer three of his six brothers, Rev. Victor (Norma), Rev. Herman(Marian), Arno (Virginia)and Sylvio, (Geraldine) and one sister, Edna (Lehenbauer) Wesemann. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Rempfer, (Rev. William) Quincy, the Rev. Paul Lehenbauer(Victoria), Oviedo, FL. and Rev. Osmar Lehenbauer (Katherine), also of Oviedo, FL.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Nokomis at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 to service tim
