Jewel L. Rice of Pensacola, Fla., age 92, formerly of Eldorado, Ill., Taylorville, Ill., and Beaver Dam, Ky., died on January 26, 2017 at 7:30 at Specialty Care Facility in Pensacola, Fla.
She was born on April 1, 1924 to Samuel and Frances (Benson) Faught in Eldorado, Ill. She married Fred Rice Jr. on February 4, 1940, sharing 62 years of marriage before he proceeded her in death in 2002. She was also proceeded in death by her daughter Janet Eaton of East Peoria, Ill. in 2012, her son-in-law Randy Eaton of East Peoria, Ill. in 2008, her other son-in-law Tom Dobyns of Pensacola, Fla. in 2002, her parents, four sisters, and one brother. Jewel is survived by one daughter Hazel Dobyns of Pensacola, Fla., also surviving are four grandchildren: Carrie (Jim) Miles of East Peoria, Ill., Tom (Yvonne) Dobyns of Katy, Texas, Ed (Beth) Olehy, Jr. of Peoria, Ill., and Rick (Jackie) Dobyns of Pensacola, Fla. She also had six great-grandchildren: Brandon (Amy) Vermillion, Brody Vermillion, Shea Olehy, Drew Olehy, Elizabeth Dobyns, and Nick Padilla.
Jewel was a homemaker most of her life enjoying cooking, family time, gardening, and taking care of her loving husband. Her cooking was greatly enjoyed by her family, friends, and countless neighbors. Her garden was abundant and shared throughout the community.
Peabody Coal Mines was a huge part of her life, since her husband worked there from age 17 until he retired. It lead them to live in many different areas and even included Australia. She was loved by many, especially her family. She will be missed by all that knew her.
As per her wishes, there will be a grave-side service held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eldorado, Ill. at 11:00 a.m.
