Edward Delbert Tipsword, age 85, of St. Anne, Ill., passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, Ill. Born June 19, 1931 in Griggsville, Ill. to the late Charles William and Ruby Gladys (nee Hartman) Tipsword. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. Edward was previously employed at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant and UniRoyal Chemical in Joliet, Ill., retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Taylorville Southern Baptist Church in Taylorville, Ill. and formerly attended St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Kankakee, Ill. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #826 in Mazon, Ill. and the American Legion Louis E. Davis Post 56 in Bloomington, Ill. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Wauneta (nee Edwards), whom he married June 14, 2008 in Taylorville; daughter, Ruby (late Edgar) Hardin of Kankakee, Ill., Bertha Howisen of Kankakee, Debbie Belanger of Ashkum, and Judy Tipsword of Kankakee; step-sons, David Garcia of Litchfield, Ill. and Allen Garcia of Milan, Ill.; step-daughters, Wauneta (Donald) Simpson and Alice Garcia, both of Taylorville; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mardell Tipsword of Gillespie, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Elizabeth (nee Taylor) Tipsword; daughter, Ruth Tipsword; brothers, Pete Tipsword, Marvin Tipsword, Arthur Tipsword, and Floyd Tipsword; and sisters, Bessie Hobson, Eva Maglassen, Cori Vanhyning, Ruby Murphy, and Norma Neese.
Funeral services will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd. and Crematory, Braidwood Chapel, Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation two hours preceding services. Interment with military honors will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, Ill.
