William Raymond Dowdy
March 20, 1921 - February 5, 2017

William Raymond (Bill) Dowdy passed away peacefully at his home in Winchester, Ky. on February 5, 2017, at the age of 95. Bill was born on March 20,1921, in Pickett County, Tenn., to Burley and Laura (Mullins) Dowdy. He married Darlene Fleming on January 10, 1947. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2005. Bill was a retiree of the Bluegrass Army bepot and proudly and honorably served in the US Army in World War II during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was a true American and loved our great nation. Bill lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed the outdoors where he loved to hunt, fish, and mushroom hunt. His other hobbies included playing cards, telling stories, and spending time with his family and friends. Everyone who knew Bill loved him and will tell you that he was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Bill is survived by his children: Delinda (Donald) Pelfrey, David (Lynn) Dowdy, Dennis Dowdy, Donalda (Barry) Sons, and Douglas Dowdy. He had eight grandchildren: Diana (Martin) Kirk, Scott Dowdy, Dawn Pelfrey, Megan (Eric) Ralston, Scan Dowdy. Will Dowdy, lan Dowdy, and Miranda Dowdy. In addition. Bill had seven great-grandchildren: Mason Kirk, Taylor Dowdy, Torilynn Dowdy, Gavin Kirk, Treanna Dowdy, Griffey Ralston, and Layla Ralston. Also, he is survived by one sister, Betty Sikes of Taylorville, Ill., and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives. Along with his wife. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his son and daughter-in-law Billy and Dena Dowdy, and infant son, Delmar. Bill was also preceded in death by brothers: Shirley, Sherman, Lee, Delmar Jayson, and Edgar Ray (Button) and sisters: Leona Huddleston, Georgia Yard, Stella Sparling, Susie Jacobs, and Pauline Huston. The family received friends on Thursday, February 9, at the Mt. Zion Christian Church in Winchester, Ky, and then hosted a celebration of life in Bill's honor at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be at Anderson Cemetery, Palmer, Ill., at a later date.
