Thomas Steele
May 16, 1927 - March 20, 2017

Thomas Steele, age 89, of Mattoon passed away at 8:05 p.m. on March 20, 2017 at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home.

Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Morrisonville Cemetery with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Thomas was born on May 16, 1927 in Morrisonville, IL the son of William and Vnola (Ellis) Steele. He married Mae Adams on October 8, 1944. She passed away on April 22, 2012.

Survivors include his son, Mark and wife Shirley of Lakewood, IL; grandchildren, Michael and wife Janie of Ramsey, IL, Matthew and wife Rachel of Vandalia, IL, Lori Price and husband Jeff of Shelbyville, IL; great-grandchildren, Megan Plants, Danielle Hadley, Rachel Price, Austin Steele, Zane Steele, Everett Steele, Samantha Strobel, Rachel Strobel, Travis Strobel; great-great-grandchildren, Emma, Carter, Connor and Briar; sisters, Marge Millburg of Waggoner, IL, Betty and husband Wes Cherry of Springfield, IL; sister-in-law, Annabelle Bohlen Edinburg, IL and Emma Lou Lankford of Chatham, IL; brother-in-law, Dale Eugene and wife Lynn Adams of Raymond, IL; and niece, Evelyn Lederbrand and significant other Don Thompson of Pawnee, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, William Steele and Donald Steele; sister, Linda Dalton; and one son, Thomas Eugene Steele Jr. 

Thomas started working for Illinois Consolidated in Taylorville in November of 1947. He worked his way up the ranks from lineman, to plant manager in Litchfield, to outside plant engineer in Mattoon. He held this positions until he retired in 1982. After retiring, Thomas later worked as a contractor with Communications Engineering for ten years. Blessed with a gifted mind, Tom was able to teach himself the engineering skills required in his work. He was an avid golfer and was even able to compete in some tournaments. Tom enjoyed spending time with his golf buddies and especially his family. He will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered.
