Myrtle L. Sims, 86, of Pana, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 in her home with her loving family by her side. She was born on December 30, 1930 in Herrick, daughter of the late Lewis and Nancy Emmaline (Burris) Denton.
Myrtle was a member of Christ Tabernacle, Herrick. She taught Sunday school for over 50 years at the First United Pentecostal Church, Pana. She worked as a CNA for Pana Community Hospital and was a caregiver in private homes for many years. She loved walking, crocheting, baking, reading, camping, riding motorcycles with her husband, and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Myrtle L. Denton and Howard L. Sims were united in marriage on May 9, 1947 in Pana. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2004.
She is survived by her children: Larry (Cheryl) Sims, Arlington, Ill.; Greg (Lisa) Sims, Taylorville, Ill.; Brad (Sharon) Sims, Pana, Ill.; Tim (Lisa) Sims, Bridgeton, Mo.; daughter-in-law Annette Sims, Oconee, Ill; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and brother: Rev. Orville (Geneva) Denton, Pana, Ill. She was also preceded by her sons: Gary Leon Sims and Randy Sims; brothers: Floyd Denton, Joe Denton, and Otis Denton; and sisters: Kelsey Fatheree and Nellie Henderson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Christ Tabernacle, Herrick at 10:30 a.m. with Bishop Thomas Suey and Pastor Jereme Suey officiating. Burial will be in Price Cemetery, Oconee. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
