Kenneth A. Horsthemke, 90, of Pana, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017, at Pana Community Hospital. He was born June 24, 1926, in Pana, to William and Louise (Benthaus) Horsthemke.
Kenneth proudly served in the United States Marines. He was a member of the Pana Knights of Columbus, Pana American Legion Kerr-Mize Post #168 and the Illinois Sheriff’s Association. He retired from the Christian County Sheriff’s Department as Chief Deputy after 25 years. He also worked for McCracken Funeral Home for five years and Purity Bakery Company for 17 years. Kenneth enjoyed golfing at the Pana Country Club & Ramsey Golf Course, being a part of the “eating out club,” and spending Veteran’s Day in Branson, Mo.
Kenneth married Rosemary Fitzpatrick on September 19, 1966, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Pana, and she survives. He is also survived by his son, Martin (Tammy) Horsthemke of Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandsons; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: William, Walter, Dick and Henry Horsthemke; sisters: Betty Gibson and Theresa Scoles; and a nephew, “whimpy” Dionne, who was like a brother to him.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Pana at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Rodney A. Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana, with graveside military rites by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. A private family visitation was scheduled.
