Donald “Mick” Goodwin, 87 of Pana, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 25, 1929 in Kenosha, Wisc., the son of the late William and Cora Agnes (Budds) Goodwin. He married Delores “Cook” Petit on October 7, 1955 in Pana and she survives in Pana.
“Mick” had served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return to Pana, he worked several years for the City of Pana with the Street Department and at the Sewer Plant. He then worked as a Bias Cutter at Firestone for numerous years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Pana VFW Post #4431, Pana Elks Lodge #1261 and the Pana Moose Lodge #1015. In his early years, “Mick” enjoyed bowling. He loved gardening, fishing, camping, hunting and mushroom hunting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son David M. (Karen) Goodwin of Pana, daughters Rebecca (Ron) Antonio of Taylorville, LeeAnn Goodwin of Pana, 6 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, brothers Bill Goodwin of Pana, Tom (Dorothy) Goodwin of Whittier, Calif., brother-in-law Don Petit of Pana and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Irene Haggarty, Sylvia Crawford and his great-granddaughter Brennah Goodwin.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home. Per “Mick’s” wishes, cremation rites will be accorded immediately following services and burial will take place at a later date in Rosemond Grove Cemetery with military rites by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the funeral home. www.mdfh.com
