Michael D. Sheedy, 76, of Palmer, IL passed away at 11:18 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.
Michael was born May 20, 1941 in Palmer, Ill., the son of Dennis and Halene (Nave) Sheedy. He married Helen Dobyns on September 1, 1983 in Taylorville, Ill.
Michael graduated from Morrisonville High School, and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. He then worked as a Christian County Deputy Sheriff for many years, as well as operating Sheedy’s Colonial Forge as a blacksmith. Michael was a member of St. Maurice’s Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and a member of the American Legion Post 721 in Morrisonville. He enjoyed his work as a gunsmith, rendezvous reenactments, vegetable gardening, and he was known for his excellent storytelling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Sheedy; and infant sister, Patricia Sheedy.
Michael is survived by his wife, Helen Sheedy of Palmer; daughters, Megan (husband, Josh) Bailey of Palmer, and Angela (husband, Jeff) Graham of Stonington; grandchildren, Destiny, Devlin, Kera, Dyllan, Naudia, Annjela, Willow, and Jeffrey; brother, William (wife, Nancy) Sheedy of Morrisonville; sister-in-law, Mick Sheedy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2017 at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, Ill., with Deacon Patrick O’Toole officiant. Military honors will be provided.
