Virgil Greffe passed away on April 19, 2017. He was born on August 23, 1923 to parents Cyrus Dean and Abbie Jane Greffe.
Virgil lived his first 25 years on the family farm northeast of Sharpsburg and attended the one room Possum Point School. He was the youngest of eight siblings that included five brothers and three sisters: Earl, Esther, Dale, Karl, twin brothers Ronald and Donald, Rachel and his twin sister Virginia Cowell.
Virgil had two sons from a previous marriage to Bette Chesterman; Jon D. and Daniel W. Greffe, both of Arizona.
Virgil married Martha Brown in 1967, she passed away in June of 2011. As Virgil aged, his two favorite subjects never changed but the energy and the excitement he used to tell these stories grew. His love for his wife, Martha and the love he had for his family were his most memorable and happiest times of his life. Virgil enjoyed telling stories of what it was like living on a rural farm and being the youngest in a family with nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his sister Rachel Wheeler, as well as four grandchildren: Amber, Evan, Noah, Vanessa and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Bethel Baptist Church, north east of Sharpsburg following the 10:30 a.m. service. Arrangements are being handled by McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.
