Ronald James Payne, 72, of Henderson, Nevada, formerly of Owaneco, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017, in his residence. Born on October 27, 1944, in Pana, Illinois, Ron was the son of L.M. “Mike” and Mary M. “Molly” Payne. He graduated from Taylorville High School, and then went on to the University of Missouri. Ron received his degree in Aeronautical Engineering, eventually obtaining his Masters in Civil Engineering. Ron worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington, Pratt-Whitney in Hartford, Connecticut, and up until his retirement he utilized his private pilot’s license and ran his own soil testing business in Henderson, Nevada. Ron loved his nieces and nephews, and spent a few times each year back in central Illinois to visit. It goes without saying that travel was close to his heart, and Ron loved to visit the National Parks, especially with his family.
He is survived by his step-mother: Florine Payne, of Clinton; siblings: Leslie J. Payne, of Heringen, Germany; Robert J. Payne, of Owaneco; Judith A. Plattner (Greg), of St. Louis; step-siblings: Cindy Bandeko (Kirk), Wiley Ayers; Bradley Ayers; Beverly Jackson; Randy Ayers; nieces and nephews: April England (Nathan); Amber Payne (T.J. Orme); Angela Lauterbach (Roland); Aaron Payne (Nicole); Jacob Plattner (Megan Meyers); Samuel Plattner; and many great nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Michael J. Payne.
A memorial service to honor Ron’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017, at McClure Funeral Home, with Rev. Tom Bellegante officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place privately at a later date. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is handling arrangements.
