Stephen Dominic Painter, 55, of Springfield passed away at 10:46 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born on January 29, 1962 in Taylorville, the son of John D. and Karen A. (Speagle) Painter. Stephen worked as a pastry chef in the bakery of the Wyndham Hotel in Springfield. He enjoyed collecting bikes and working on them and was known as a talented handyman and enjoyed working on mowers. He was a cat and dog lover, enjoyed many types of music and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Stephen loved planning meals for his family and was an excellent cook. It was Stephen’s wish to be an organ and tissue donor and his gift will help to improve the lives of many. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.
He is survived by his fiancée: Connie Harbour of Springfield; father: John Painter of Taylorville; daughters: Stephanie Painter and Renata Harbour both of Springfield; grandchildren: Blaise Browning, Owen Browning, and Nadia Browning all of Springfield; grandmother: Antoinette Painter of Taylorville; sister: Kathleen Seelbach (Kevin) of Springfield; nieces: Alexandra Ibberson (Joshua) of Virden, and Sierra Soland of Chicago; and aunts. He was excited about his new great-nephew: Brayden Beau Ibberson who is due in a few months. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, an aunt and an uncle.
Stephen will be cremated and a memorial service will take place at 12noon on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Following the committal service in the cemetery, the family will host a celebration of life at the American Legion in Taylorville.
