Mr. Louis Broccardo, 91 of Kincaid Illinois was called home to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Our devoted husband, father, and Papa was born August 8, 1926, son of Joseph and Julia (Soupart) Broccardo Sr. in Kincaid, Ill. He married Roberta (Ferrell) on September 11, 1952 in Taylorville, Ill. who preceded him in death in August 25, 2007.
Mr. Broccardo proudly served in the US Navy during World War II and was stationed just off shore from Hiroshima when the bomb went off and was involved in the cleanup following detonation. He also witnessed the detonating over Nagasaki. He then worked at Broccardo Brothers bottling in Kincaid, Vess bottling plant in Springfield, Borg Warner in Decatur and lastly worked at Peabody Coal Mine #10 as a foreman where he received the Mining Medal of Honor for saving the life of Phil Dickey. He retired from Peabody in 1988. Louis was a proud member and Master Mason of the Blueville Lodge, Edinburg, Ill. for over 50 years and also a member of Edwin Corpin American Legion Post 905 Kincaid, Ill. Surviving are daughters: Diana (Jerry) Pittro of Chicago, Ill., Debra (Gary) McConnell of Kincaid, Ill., Sherrie (Don) Torricelli of Trenton, Ill., Michelle (Bob) Billings of Venetia, PN, one son Louis (Lisa) Broccardo II of Kincaid, Ill., 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Gail Dees of Kincaid, Ill. along with a great many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers: Marcel, Alfred, Emil, Joseph (Art), and Raymond Broccardo, and a son Robbie Dees.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, Ill. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. with masonic services at 10:45 a.m. prior to service at Masterson Funeral Home.
