Samuel Calandro, 89, of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 11:08 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on May 1, 1928 in Taylorville, Ill., the son of Jasper and Lena (Sansone) Calandro. He married Annetta Servi on June 12, 1949, in Taylorville, Ill. Sam worked as an over the road truck driver and he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and VFW Post No. 4495 in Taylorville, Ill.
Surviving are his wife Annetta Calandro of Taylorville, Ill.; sons Anthony (Leslie) Calandro of St. Louis, Mo.; Samuel J. (Angie) Calandro of Taylorville, Ill.; grandchildren Rachel Calandro of Taylorville, Ill., Meghan Calandro and fiance A.J. Howell of Arthur, Ill.; Natalie Calandro of St. Louis, Mo; brother Thomas (Gertrude) Calandro of Taylorville, Ill.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph Calandro and sisters Pauline Gibbons and Marie Davis.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with prayers at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Ill.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association and National Kidney Foundation of Illinois.
