William D. “Bill” Sweetin, 86, of Pana, died Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was born July 31, 1931 in West Frankfort, Ill. to the late Sidney and Mary (Hammers) Sweetin.
Bill lived most of life in the Pana area. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bill had served in the U.S. Army and retired from Caterpillar after 30 years. He was a member of the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church and enjoyed watching western movies. Bill was a good man & father. He was a man of strong faith, a very humble, simple, happy man with a generous heart.
William D. Sweetin married Betty June Bean on October 23, 1951, whom he loved so much. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2014.
He is survived by his daughters: Judy (John) Scherzer, Pana, Ill. and Brenda (Larry) Love, Rochester, Ill.; sons: Bill Sweetin, Jr., College Station, Texas and David Sweetin, Pana, Ill.; nine grandchildren: Kimberly Younger, Gayl (Brett) McPheron, Bobby Sweetin, Ben Scherzer, Brandon (Joslyn) Scherzer, Robert Love, Thomas Love, Matthew Smith, Marjorie Smith; two great-grandchildren: Danny and Tim Pruett; and twin sister, Betty Sweetin, Energy, Ill. He was also preceded in death by his son, Danny Ray Sweetin; daughters: Sherry Marguerite Smith and Beverly Kay Pruett; brothers and sisters: Pearl Golis, Loretta Gunter, Vera Giacomelli, Sue Broski, Fern Giles, Mildred Carello, Jim Sweetin, Don Sweetin, Chuck Sweetin, Johnie Sweetin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Brown officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana with graveside military rites by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home. www.mdfh.com
