Martha Elizabeth Troup Anderson was ushered from Earth to Heaven on Sunday, December 17, 2017 after an extended illness. She was born January 16, 1948 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Lee County High School in Kentucky and attended Appalachian Bible Institute in Bradley, West Virginia, where she met her husband, David. She was a resident of Moweaqua, Illinois at the time of her death.
Martha accepted Christ as her personal Savior on November 16, 1966. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville, Illinois and was a passionate supporter of world missions. Personal Bible study and memorization were a regular part of her life. She committed many passages to memory, and as a teenager, successfully competed on Bible quiz teams. Over the course of her life, Martha taught Sunday School, various Ladies Fellowship groups and gave prayer and financial support to numerous organizations and individuals dedicated to the Lord’s work.
Martha was a faithful wife and dedicated mother to her children. She was an avid reader, as well as an accomplished cook, baker, seamstress, crafter and gardener. She blessed many young mothers with creations from yarn for a newborn infant.
She is survived by her husband, David; children: MaryBeth (Jeffrey) Plourd, Bristol, Connecticut; Jonathan (Beth) Anderson, Middlefield, Ohio; granddaughter, Rebecca Plourd; step-granddaughters: Leah Pace and Merin Swistro; two sisters, Mary Ellen Hain and Miriam Patten; two brothers, Mark and Michael Troup; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Earl and Anna Troup; infant brother, John Emerson Troup; and infant son, Michael David Anderson.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Grace Baptist Church, Taylorville with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time in the church. Inurnment will be held in Mitchellville, Iowa at a later date.
