L. Jean Weichert, 90, of Assumption, died Friday, January 12, 2018 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born November 25, 1927 in Springfield, the daughter of Percival and Ethel (Jackson) Eddington. She married Henry L. Weichert on July 7, 1946, and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2002. Jean was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who always kept busy. She was known best for her avid gardening. She managed the recycling program in Assumption, was active in Brownies and Boy Scouts, ran a paper route, but most of all Jean enjoyed bringing her family together for the holidays and cooking for them. Jean was devoted to her children and grandchildren, and she will be dearly missed.
Jean is survived by her children: Robert (Julie) Weichert of Springfield; Saralee (David) Orange of Gautier, Miss.; Sandra (Michael) Williams of Owaneco; Cindy (Christopher) Tillman of Assumption; Susan (Randy) Corzine of Assumption; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Louisa Weichert of Springfield.
Along with her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, one son, William Weichert, her brother, Alfred, and her sister, Dorothy.
Jean’s family will host a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Assumption Christian Church, 115 North Walnut St., Assumption, with Pastor Brock Eckert officiating. Per Jean’s wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband following a committal service at 11:00 Thursday, January 18 in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
