Bonnilou G. “Bonnie” Cothern, 88 of Pana, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was born May 29, 1929 near Moweaqua, Ill. to the late Louie Edgar & Ermine Mina (Harris) Reatherford.
Bonnie was raised in Moweaqua where she graduated from high school in 1946. As a young girl she could be found working in her Aunt “Babes” restaurant in Decatur. After moving to Pana she worked at Ron’s restaurant, Mallory’s and did housekeeping. Bonnie was one of the earliest members of the Pana Christian Church where she had taught Sunday School for 46 years. She enjoyed reading her Bible, piecing quilts, working in her flower garden and watching the birds in her yard. She loved cooking and baking and was known for her pies and Holiday treats. Her greatest love was her children and her grandchildren.
She married Warren Frederick “Mike” Cothern on June 5, 1948 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1991.
Bonnie is survived by her children: John Cothern of Pana, Jerry (Chris) Cothern of Ramsey, Tom (Cindy) Cothern, Roger (Mary) Cothern, Sam (Tonia) Cothern all of Pana, Danny Cothern of Mattoon, grandchildren Craig (Angie) Cothern, Aaron (Janet) Cothern, Michelle (Dave) DeRousse, Michael Taylor Cothern, Sarah (Steve) Crosby, Cecil “C.J.” (Ashley) Cothern, Wes (Kelli) Cothern, Tyler Cothern and friend Hannah Considine, Michael Cothern, Bethany Cothern, Greg Cothern, Mike (Taylor) Cothern, Rebecca Cothern, Bradley Cothern, Trevor Cothern, Kelly Cothern, Matthew Jones, Erin (Jason) Bousman, 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and daughter-in-law Louie and Patricia Cothern, Grandson Chad Cothern, sisters and their husbands Kay and Ray Brunk and Joan and Tom Rutherford.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Pana Christian Church at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Altman officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.
