Harold Robert ‘Bob’ Calvert, 87, of Pana, died Monday, May 7, 2018 at Heritage Health in Pana after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born February 13, 1931, in Effingham, son of the late Harold & Thelma Doty Calvert.
Bob married Janetta Little Woolard of Pana in 1972 and they enjoyed 45 years of marriage together and many travels throughout the U.S. Bob lovingly cared for Janetta during her illness and she preceded him in death on September 11, 2017. Bob served 20 years in the Army with his first duty station in occupied Japan after WWII. He then saw combat as a Korean and Vietnam war veteran where he served as a medic. Upon retirement from the military he worked as an Operating Room Technician at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Taylorville as well as Executive Director of the Christian County Senior Citizens. He was a long-time board member at CEFS and proudly served as an honor guard with the Pana American Legion. Bob and Janetta were very active in their retirement years with the Pana Senior Citizens Center and were members of the Pana Church of Christ.
Bob is survived by sons: Virgil (Randy Purkes), Dennis, and Jimmy Calvert, Tower Hill, Ill., and Rick (Sandy) Calvert, Hillsboro, Ill.; daughters: Barbara Calvert, Tower Hill, Ill. and Jeannie Hutchcraft, Hillsboro, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Gina Calvert, Tower Hill, Ill.; step-daughter, Donna (John) Hau, Monee, Ill. and step-son: Rusty (Glenda) Woolard, Taylorville, Ill. and Paul (Heidi) Woolard, Forsyth, Ill.; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson; and brother, William Calvert, Highland, Calif. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded by his son William Lee ‘Bill’ Calvert and one grandchild at birth.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Linwood Cemetery, Pana at 3:00 p.m. with Earl Baker officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Pana Honor Guard.
