Tornado JFL spilts weekend series against Mattoon
TAYLORVILLE — After all of the excitement of being introduced Friday night at the Purple and Gold scrimmage, the Taylorville JFL squads were back at it again Saturday, August 19. The fifth grade team started the day off for Taylorville, defeating visiting Matoon 20-12, with Cayden Tirpak contributing two touchdowns and Finn Niemann scoring the other. The sixth grade team wouldn’t end up as fortunate, losing 20-12 with Clark Rahar scoring both touchdowns for the Tornadoes. The seventh grade team got the Tornadoes back in the win column, defeating Mattoon 14-0. EJ would score the first touchdown on a long run, with Zane Anthony receiving the pass for the two-point conversion. Anthony would do it again, coming down with the reception for the second touchdown. In the late game, the eight grade team would lose to Mattoon 20-8. Luke Durbin ran down a pass that was tipped by the Mattoon defense for the lone Tornado score. The JFL Tornadoes will be back in action at Don Braggs next week, facing off against the Panthers of Decatur. Robert Fagg/Breeze-Courier Sports Writer
