Lady Tornadoes use late 14-2 run, down Rochester

TAYLORVILLE — “Shooting is something we emphasize everyday,” said Taylorville girls basketball head coach Stephen Keller. That emphasis paid off Tuesday night as the Lady Tornadoes used six three balls and a litany of jumpers to put away the Rochester Rockets by a final of 48-36 to move to 3-1 on the young season.

Grant beats 8th-grade Tornadoes 41-34
SPRINGFIELD — The TJHS eighth grade boys faced off against current number one team Springfield Grant on Tuesday night in Springfield. Tornado head coach Tom May said that the boys, “Had a slow start, but stayed with them the rest of the game. It was a total team effort, I am very proud.” The Tornadoes just couldn’t get shots to fall in the fourth and were defeated 41-34.

TAYLORVILLE — The 10-2 Tornadoes were honored on Monday as the all-conference selections for the Apollo were released. A total of nine Tornadoes were given honors, seven were first team selections and two were second team. Taylorville was the only school where one member of the team was selected in all areas for first team all-conference.

MAHOMET — The Tornadoes traveled to Mahomet to battle against the Bulldogs of Mahomet-Seymour. The Tornadoes took set one 25-15 and appeared to be cruising, but Mahomet took set two and three both with scores of 23-25 and 23-25.

TAYLORVILLE — The Taylorville Tornadoes had the benefit of hosting the 2017 Apollo Conference boys golf tournament. The boys finished sixth overall with a team score of 378; Charleston won with a 304, then it was Mattoon with a 324, Mahomet-Seymour with a 354, Lincoln and Mt. Zion with a 359, and Effingham finished behind the Tornadoes with a 382.

TAYLORVILLE — The boys were at it again Thursday night at the Olde Bowl, as Team 12 took the lead. A three-way tie for second has Olde Bowl, Yard Heating and Cooling, and Taylorville Moose in that  spot, closely followed by T’Ville KC II. Friday night’s matchup between Taylorville and Effingham was not a typical game though.  Head coach Jeb Odam said, “the gameplay was going to be high risk, high reward.
