LITCHFIELD — “These guys are fun to watch right now. Floor burns, bruises, and a black eye are now a part of our identity,” said Taylorville head basketball coach Ryan Brown via social media after the Tornadoes picked up their eighth win in nine games Saturday night when they rolled over Lebanon in their opening matchup of the Litchfield Tournament.

Taylorville boys bowling finishes seventh at regional
JERSEYVILLE — The Tornadoes traveled to Jerseyville on Saturday to compete in the IHSA bowling regional against 10 other schools; a regional that saw the most individual competitors in the state. The four schools that advanced from the regional were Alton, Jersey, Abingdon-Avon, and Roxana.

TAYLORVILLE — “We had a hard time finding some sort of flow. We did a lot of standing and watching and just couldn’t get into a rhythm. We got several good looks, but they just didn’t fall for us tonight,” said Taylorville girls head basketball coach Steve Keller after Friday night’s 49-36 loss to the Jersey Lady Panthers in the third-place game of the Jerseyville tournament.

ALTON — The Tornado bowling teams traveled to Alton on Wednesday to play six games. The boys finished 11 out of 16 with a total of 5,080 and were 815 pins behind first place; the girls finished 16 with a total of 3,682 and were 1,980 pins behind first.

TAYLORVILLE — Christian County Youth Volleyball wrapped up their season on Saturday with a tournament in Taylorville’s west gym. Swinger Farms came in first place for the first through third grade division and Craggs Realtors brought in first place in the fourth through sixth grade division. Swinger Farms was coached by Edinburg high school senior Emily Sims and Craggs Realtors was coached by Scott Prince. Pictured are all the participating players and their coaches.

JERSEYVILLE — Seven different Tornadoes came home with medals on Saturday after not competing for a week.

“I was happy with the volume of matches that we were able to get on Saturday. We were able to knock off the rung rust as you may say it and get back out there. We had several guys who had three and four matches in the day and it was good for them,” said head Coach Lee Mateer.

8th-grade Tornadoes win Monday despite missing seven
WILLIAMSVILLE — Including three starters, seven Tornadoes were missing on Monday night for the TJHS game against the Bullets. Despite being down by 15, the Tornadoes were able to bounce back and get the win 45-42. “I’m so proud of this team tonight. Williamsville is very good and I think a lot of people figured this was a loss. I knew as soon as I gave my pre-game speech that there was a fire building inside those boys, and they showed it,” said head coach Tom May.

The girls and their parents traveled up to Bolingbrook, with hopes of playing two games in the day. Unfortunately, that dream would not come to fruition as they would fall to East Peoria 22-19 in the end.

LINCOLN — “You can’t out-Lincoln Lincoln,” said head coach of the Tornadoes Ryan Brown before the season started. “We just hope that we can out-Taylorville Lincoln.” The Tornadoes came out hot at the start, stifling the Lincoln long-ball. The Railer defense just proved to be too tough, as they held the Tornadoes to 21 points. The Tornadoes would drop this one to Lincoln by a final of 56-21.

DETROIT — Taylorville native Bobby Wombacher has the opportunity to call one of the biggest cards of the year for the UFC this Saturday, reffing one of the matches on the UFC 218 card. Wombacher isn’t sure of what match he will be doing but he said, “I’m grateful to be wherever (the fight) is. The fight really doesn’t matter to me. I treat all of the athletes the same.”

TAYLORVILLE — Charleston seemed to have every answer for anything the Tornadoes threw at them, whether it was their tenacious defense, their relentless rebounding, or their shooting. Charleston seemed to answer even shot with one of their own and the Tornadoes just weren’t able to amount any resemblance of a climb up the mountain after going down 27-9 in the first quarter. After that, the Tornadoes played a great game of a 53-44 score.

SPRINGFIELD — The TJHS eighth grade boys faced off against current number one team Springfield Grant on Tuesday night in Springfield. Tornado head coach Tom May said that the boys, “Had a slow start, but stayed with them the rest of the game. It was a total team effort, I am very proud.” The Tornadoes just couldn’t get shots to fall in the fourth and were defeated 41-34.

TAYLORVILLE — The wrestling team may not officially start their season until November 28, but they did get to show off some of the work they have put in so far at the Wrestle-Offs on Thursday night.

Nine Tornado football players named all-conference
TAYLORVILLE — The 10-2 Tornadoes were honored on Monday as the all-conference selections for the Apollo were released. A total of nine Tornadoes were given honors, seven were first team selections and two were second team. Taylorville was the only school where one member of the team was selected in all areas for first team all-conference.
