Professor to discuss base ball mania in the late 1800s
Imagine a baseball field with a stream running through the outfield, a literal water hazard for ballplayers or a large crowd watching a game near the junction of Decatur’s two busiest railroads. If you can’t, Millikin University’s Dr. Bob Sampson of the Department of History and Political Science will explain this and more, including why the game was spelled as two words when he makes a presentation on baseball at the Macon County History Museum on Sat., April 21 at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Christian County YMCA Predator swim team hosts awards banquet
TAYLORVILLE — The CCYMCA Predators held their annual awards banquet on Sunday, March 4. High point awards were handed out and those who made the Dedicated Swimmer Club were announced.  Also recognized were the THS Swim Team seniors; Audra Boehme, Zane Neville and Jace Sassatelli.

Two CCYMCA Predators advance to state
SPRINGFIELD — The CCYMCA Predators swam in the Illini District Championship meet in Springfield on February 23 and 24. Kade Guhlstorf and Lily Osborn will both be competing in the state championship in St. Johns, Indiana over the weekend of March 9; Guhlstorf in five individual events and Osborn in three individual events.

Center Pointe Dance Academy gets four trophies
The Center Pointe Dance Academy’s competition team was in action on Saturday at the Tremaine Dance Competition.

They brought back three second place trophies and a third place trophy at the close of competition. LilliElla Vail won a full scholarship to the Tremaine Convention.

RAYMOND — The Lincolnwood Lancers defeated the Pawnee Indians on Monday in the first game of their regional. The Lancers won 47-32 and will face off against White Hall (North Greene) tonight.

SPRINGFIELD — The Lincolnwood Lancers traveled to Springfield Friday to face off against the Calvary Saints. The Lancers fought back from an eight point deficit at half to make it a three point game after the third quarter, but Calvary outscored the Lancers by 15 in the fourth for the 63-45 victory.

RAYMOND — Lincolnwood had the Purple Panthers visit town on Tuesday in what would prove to be an exciting game. The Lancers led until the fourth quarter, when the Purple Panthers were able to outscore the Lancers 12-5 and escape Raymond with a 50-48 victory.
