HILLSBORO — The Taylorville Storm 14u baseball team was at Hillsboro last weekend.
Despite the cold and the rain, the 14u team pulled off an amazing act of will and determination! They played two games on Saturday going 1-1 dropping a game to the Chatham Redskins 15-4 and beating Hillsboro 14-2, now they had to play 3 games in a row on Sunday to get back to the final game.

TAYLORVILLE — Rich Wilson, Sr. graduated from THS in 1946. He was a three year letter winner and starter in football on three Mid-State Conference Champions.  He was a starting guard for two  seasons on the Tornadoes basketball team and he started two years for Red Bland’s baseball team in the spring.

Lady Tornadoes remain atop conference standings after Mt. Zion split
TAYLORVILLE — The Lady Tornadoes were at home on Saturday afternoon where they hosted the Lady Braves of Mt. Zion in a double header. The Braves jumped out to an early lead in game one, and the Tornadoes struggled to find an answer both at the plate and in the field. “It was 5-0 after the second, but the two unearned runs we gave them in the first were more disheartening than the next three,” said Taylorville Head Coach Jim Novar. “That first inning, we had two outs and then committed two errors, which opened the door for them to score those first two runs. When you play a team like Mt. Zion, you just cant give them extra outs.

THS Hall of Fame inductee: Bob Lanzotti
TAYLORVILLE — Bob Lanzotti graduated from Taylorville High School in 1955 and was a three year letter winner on the Tornadoes’ football team.  A starting guard for two years, and a natural leader both on and off the field,  Lanzotti was selected team captain during the Tornadoes 6 – 2 – 1  season in 1954.

THS Hall of Fame inductee: Lee Mateer
TAYLORVILLE — Lee Mateer, a 1999 Taylorville High School graduate, is being inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach and a player. While in high school, Mateer lettered 3 years in football and wrestling and 2 years in track and one year in baseball.  He began his coaching career as an assistant football coach in 2004 and an assistant wrestling coach in 2006, and eventually became the Defensive Coordinator in football and head coach of the wrestling program.
