PIECRUST COOKIES: MAKE USE OF SWEET PASTRY
Making the old-fashioned coconut macaroons last week got me to thinking about another cookie. Growing up, it was always a treat to take the scraps of my mom's pie pastry, sprinkle them with sugar and cinnamon, and bake them on a piece of foil. Kitchen Scoop: The Secret To A Good Pizza With A Whole Wheat Crust
Several months ago, I featured a tried-and-true recipe for Easy Pizza Dough. I love this recipe and use it often. (You can still access it on kitchenscoop.com.) But since that time, I've had several folks ask me for a 100 percent whole-wheat version that is just as easy and foolproof. If you've ever played with recipes for yeast breads and dough, you know it's not as simple as substituting the whole-wheat flour for the all-purpose flour or bread flour. Whole-wheat flour is heavier by nature because it contains the wheat bran and wheat germ. So when using yeast for leavening, it's a new deal.

Enhance spring veggies with lemon poppy seed dressing
If I say lemons and poppy seeds, what comes to mind? Muffins? Tiny little cakes dripping with icing? I do love a good, buttery lemon poppy seed cake, but today I'm talking about salad dressing. That's right: lemon poppy seed dressing.

STIR IT UP! Mysteriously delicious
Sherlock Holmes often fasted during a case, but he did love a sturdy British breakfast. The fictional detective Nero Wolfe, on the other hand, famously indulged in gourmet fare, like roast pheasant larded with Tokay-infused pork, cooked by his personal chef, Fritz.
