Reader in love with sister's boyfriend
DEAR HARRIETTE: Relationships never seemed to work for me. I don't really know why, but at some point or another, the guy and I would drift. After that, it'd be over. I'm tired of this pattern. I want a guy who stays and loves me unconditionally.

Dad's lack of punctuality starts family fights
DEAR HARRIETTE: My father has horrible time management. This has affected birthdays, trips and family reunions. My family is always a little harsh on each other and tells it how it is, so his lateness is brought up when he forces everyone to wait around for hours. He then gets irrationally angry. We try to make a joke out of this because he never apologizes for missing flights or dinners

DEAR HARRIETTE: I stayed at a hotel over the New Year's holiday and thought I was lucky to even get a room, considering the time of year. I was told that there were no additional rooms when I booked mine. When I got to my room, I was horrified. While it looked clean, it smelled horrible. Really, it smelled like homeless people had been camping out there.

DEAR HARRIETTE: My mother had a health scare over the holidays, and it really freaked my siblings and me out. We weren't sure what was going to happen to her. At the same time, we know how private she is about things, so we didn't tell many people what happened. So far she is doing OK, but she is not 100 percent yet.

DEAR HARRIETTE: I was ditched at a holiday party I was dragged to! My friend thought it'd be a great idea to take me to meet all of her friends ... and then she ditched me as soon as she saw all of her other friends. DEAR HARRIETTE: My younger cousin confided something shocking to me. While I was explaining my various exercise equipment, she said that she knew what ankle weights are because her mom makes her run with them on her ankles and wrists. My cousin is 9 years old and incredibly thin. I cannot believe this happens to my cousin, and she looked so upset as she was telling me. I didn't know how to respond, and we dropped the topic. This child wouldn't lie, but I haven't spoken to my aunt in years. I'm not sure how to react to this news. I do not want my aunt to make my cousin do this, but I also can't tell someone I haven't spoken to in years how to raise her daughter. What should I do? -- Poor Cousin, Dallas

Dear Harriette by Harriette Cole
DEAR HARRIETTE: When I was 4 years old, my mother took me to get my ears pierced. After my first ear was pierced, I began screaming and crying. I ran away and never got my second ear pierced. This was over 20 years ago. I have gotten around my single piercing by wearing one clip-on and one regular earring. No one has realized, at least to my knowledge, that I do not have both ears pierced.
