3 test for supervisor's position, none pass
TAYLORVILLE — All three candidates who completed the Supervisor of Assessments exam, offered by the county and administered by the Illinois Department of Revenue on December 11, failed, County Board Chairman Paul Schmitz told board members last night at a brief December meeting of the Christian County Board.

That leaves the County scrambling to fill this $63,000-a-year position that became open when current assessor Mike Gianasi tendered his resignation just one day before the general election in November.

It's official, city accepts Hathaway Homes subdivision
TAYLORVILLE — The City of Taylorville formally accepted the Hathaway Homes subdivision at last night’s city council meeting in a vote that was closer than the 5-2 tally would indicate.

“I’ll be voting yes but I want the record to reflect that I’ll be voting yes under protest due to the legal ramifications,” Alderman Larry Budd said during discussion of the proposal, “I do not support this project because I think it goes outside the scope of what’s intended.” Aldermen Rob Heberling and Martin Vota voted against the measure and Shawn Burtle abstained.

SILVERDALE, Wash. – Troy Cloe Jr. of Pana received 2014 Sailor of the Year honors from Naval Base Kitsap in Washington state.

The Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Navy League recognized the fiscal year 2014 Sailors of the Year during a luncheon at Naval Base Kitsap (NBK), Bangor Plaza Ballroom December 9. The luncheon was held to honor Naval Base Kitsap’s 2014 Sailors of the Year.

Thanks to a donation, however, the Taylorville Fire Department recently obtained a piece of equipment which could greatly increase the odds of survival for an individual trapped in a grain bin.

Sheriff seeking information on Kincaid robbery
KINCAID - Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp is seeking assistance from the public in providing  information which may lead to the arrest of subjects involved in a home invasion/strong-armed robbery which occurred yesterday in Kincaid.

On Dec. 8th at approximately 11:36 a.m., Christian County 911 received a call from a female victim residing at 305 North Avenue in Kincaid.  The caller stated an unknown suspect maced her in the face before forcing his way into the residence. The suspect entered the residence and stole two safes containing coins from a bedroom closet.  The victim told authorities that she believes two suspects were involved.  The first suspect is believed to be a male, white, in his early 20’s, with red hair and wearing a black hoodie. The victim was unable to describe the second suspect.

Local man arrested on meth charges
TAYLORVILLE - A Taylorville man is facing up to 40 years in prison on methamphetamine charges following his arrest last week.

Ryan M. Tester, 33 of Taylorville, appeared before the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court this morning on one count of aggravated unlawful participation in methamphetamine manufacturing, a Class-X charge which carries a mandatory Illinois Department of Corrections sentence ranging anywhere from nine to 40 years.
