District budget in limbo

Pana ordinance to create super committee
PANA — The ongoing debate involving the City of Pana’s committee reorganization efforts persisted at Monday evening’s regularly scheduled Pana City Council meeting.  A motion, by Alderman Miles and seconded by Alderman Lebon, was presented asking City Attorney Bill Farr to draft an ordinance on a committee as a whole.

Kincaid cuts chief's pay, hires clerk
KINCAID - Kincaid’s embattled police chief will remain on administrative leave while the Illinois State Police sort out the details of an ongoing criminal investigation, only now he will do so without pay.

Trustees voted 5-1 (Freeston - No) at last night’s village board meeting to place Police Chief Richard Adams on un-paid administrative leave. It was a vote met by applause from some of the many South Fork area residents that crowded into the small village hall for last night’s meeting.

Ahlstrom negotiations to affect city water rates
TAYLORVILLE — In an attempt to finance the city’s new $22.7 million dollar water plant that was commissioned last August, Mayor Brotherton announced that a “very probable increase in water rates” is expected imminently. “It is something that no one enjoys, but we have to finance that new water plant that we have to have,” Brotherton said.

PANA — At a press conference held at Memorial Park in LaGrange Park, Illinois, Saturday April 5, 2014, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn announced grants awarded to 46 parks in 21 Illinois Counties.    Pana’s 40 Acre Kitchell Park received $190,000 which when matched with local funds will create $390,000 in improvements.

TAYLORVILLE — The bond for Reginald L. Britton Jr. was reduced from $750,000 to $25,000 today by Illinois Fourth Circuit Court Judge Allen F. Bennett. Britton was convicted of aggravated battery by a Christian County jury last week after charges of attempted murder were dismissed.

UWCC learn about FBI's most wanted
TAYLORVILLE — The University Women of Christian County were fascinated by an account of "The FBI’s Most Wanted" by W. Bradley Ware, community outreach specialist with the Springfield FBI office, at the Tuesday, April 1, 2014 meeting at Krieger's.  Mr. Ware does media communication for the FBI.  The FBI, because of its professional code of conduct rules, is very careful not to give misinformation to the media.  However, if the situation seems workable, the FBI may ask for public assistance in tracking a fugitive.  Such was the case at the Boston Marathon bombing.

TAYLORVILLE — Shortly after resting their case against Reginald L. Britton Jr., Appellate Prosecutor Michael Vujovich motioned to dismiss one count of attempted murder against the defendant. The State will proceed with one count of aggravated domestic battery, with closing arguments to begin this morning.
