NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Illinois State University officials say the $26 million renovation of Hancock Stadium will be mostly complete in time for the Redbirds’ home opener in late September.
Executive Associate Athletic Director Larry Lyons tells The (Bloomington) Pantagraph (http://bit.ly/12fn0IJ ) that there may still be some projects underway during the September 21 game, but most of the work will be done.
The school had hoped to have construction completed in August, but work was delayed by weather.
The school’s football team has played at the stadium since 1961. The renovation is expanding seating at the stadium from 9,500 to about 13,000 seats.
Crews are also redoing the Main Street entrance, along with bleachers, suites and an upper level.
ISU’s football team will play Abilene Christian at the home opener.
