TAYLORVILLE — Three days after the election, Democratic congressional candidate David Gill conceded the 13th Congressional District race to Republican Rodney Davis.
Unofficial results from all 609 precincts showed Davis with 136,596 votes at 47 percent, Gill, 135,309 votes at 46 percent and independent John Hartman of Edwardsville, 21,241 votes at 7 percent.
The Associated Press declared Davis the winner on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by Gill on Friday evening, he says the race was close enough to demand his campaign team diligently check the numbers of outstanding provisional and absentee ballots. The statement says his campaign team completed a county-by-county analysis and "there are simply not enough" uncounted ballots left to erase his deficit.
Congressman-Elect Rodney Davis issued the following statement Friday evening following Gill’s concession: “I would like to thank David Gill for the passion with which he campaigned. I appreciate his concession this evening. Shannon, our family, and I are thankful for the wonderful support we’ve received. I am humbled to have the honor to serve as Congressman for the 13th District and am ready to get to work.”
